Ethical footwear encompasses a wide range of issues. At GreenVee we have started with our vegetarian walking boot the GreenVee Dalesway. This ethical walking boot is arguably the first green walking boot that will perform as a top quality conventional walking boot. The GreenVee Dalesway is an ethical walking boot being made from Lorica a non leather material in the upper and other non animal components and materials for the rest of the boot including the glues.

GreenVee believes a vegetarian walking boot should not compromise in terms of fit and quality of performance. The GreenVee Dalesway has a polypropelene midsole which is graded to give the right flex but will give great support for the foot on those rough paths. A Vibram sole provides excellent grip for the veggie walking boot wearer whilst the lining is sympatex for waterproofing – again the right lining for our ethical boot. Vegan boots or vegetarian boots still require a comfortable collar. The GreenVee Dalesway ethical walking boot has a lorica suede collar that will provide the right support and comfort to the ankle.

There are several terms used for this type of green footwear such as veggie boots, green boots, vegan footwear or vegetarian boots. Sometimes non-leather outdoor footwear might be referred to as synthetic walking boots or just non-leather walking boots. For those looking specifically for a veggie walking boot there are few shops but there are good online providers such as Vegetarian-shoes, Alternativesoles, Myveganshoes and Vegan-shoes. Other providers worth a look include Veganessentials, Thevegansite, Veganline and the Vegetariansite. Many of the vegetarian footwear websites provide good shoes and low level rambling boots for the veggie walker but less for the serious ethical walking boot requirement.

GreenVee is also developing boots and shoes that will have other green footwear credentials. Most footwear leathers are tanned with chemicals; GreenVee is working with naturally tanned leathers to produce other ethical footwear products. These will consist of rubber and hemp soles to add further to their ethical footwear credentials. GreenVee will only source their green boots and green shoes leathers in ISO 140001 registered tanneries within the EU.
